The
project, initially produced in 1996 for the world ski championship,
has been rescued by a group of companies from Granada. The plan
was dismissed in 1996 due to technical and political differences,
although now it appears possible it may get the go ahead.
Still
in its early stages of preparation, the project is hoped to be finalized
by the end of 2007. The company in charge of making it a reality
will be the Doppelmayr Austrian, who currently maintains the existing
telecabinas in Sierra Nevada.
The
cableway will be made up of cabins with a capacity for 30 people.
Ecologically, this helps the environment if you consider the amount
of cars that drive up to Sierra Nevada on weekends through the national
park. The network could carry four million people per year, which
would drastically decrease pollution.
As far
as the necessary investment, so that the project is feasible, the
participating companies have considered that the total budget would
reach around 80 million euros, and that at the moment of the concession
could have 25 million capital shares.
