Sierra Nevada opens December 1st

Heavy snowfall on the Sierra Nevada mountain range has resulted in an early start to the ski season.

Pistes at Europe’s most southerly ski resort will now open on December 1 after 15 centimetres of snow fell in a single day.

The snowfall and cold temperatures supplement the 120 snow cannons that have been in use in recent weeks.

At the time of going to press, the exact amount of kilometres of piste open to skiers is not known.

High speed Telecabina for Sierra Nevada

Cetursa, the company that manages the resort of Sierra Nevada, has said that the new cablecar will be operational for the start of the season, however the new high speed Telecabina will not be completed until 2009.

This new cable car will cost 15 million and will be able to carry between 2,600 and 3,100 people per hour. The capacity is almost six times higher than the previous cable car.
